Florence Nightingale Speaking

Thank you to George Wiggleworth for bringing this to our attention.

On BBC Radio Four on the 10th March 1991there was an archive program featuring voices from the past. One of these voices was that of Florence Nightingale recorded on the 30th July 1890.

The original recording was made in Florence Nightingale's house by Colonel Gouraud.

As may be expected the quality is somewhat "crackly" but still audible.

At Florence Nightingale House London July thirtieth eighteen hundred and ninety. When I am no longer even a memory, just a name, I hope my voice may perpetuate the great work of my life. God bless my dear old comrades of Balaclava and bring them ... (unclear)
