1821 Census for Crich

The 1821 census was taken on the 28th May 1821. For most areas of the country all that remains is the statistical data without names. Amazingly, there is for the 1821 Crich census a very detailed record used by the enumerator to gather the statistics required for the census return .

This record has name of the housholder and number of people living in the houshold with their ages and sex. This is extremely useful for family historians.

I have transcribed it as accurately as possible BUT sometimes it was difficult to distinguish the abbreviations. Please check for alternative spelling of surnames. If you find any name errors through mistranscription please let me know.

NOTE that the local militia were recorded separately. You will need to check names of interest on this record as they were not recorded in the alphabetical lists.

There was also a summary table at the end of the record. This was all that was officially required.

The census data was recorded on a wide sheet of paper so you may need to use your browswer's magnification option.

The original census is in the Derbyshire Archives on New Street, Matlock both on film and in paper format. Transcription from D2365 A/PO 15/2. With many thanks to the Derbyshire Library Service.

Transcript by Peter Patilla.

Sadly the first sheet is missing which is unfortunate for all the "A names". Sorry you Amatts and Allins etc.
