Joseph's father Joseph Weightman died in Q1 of 1929 aged forty-one. His mother Sarah Weightman (née Cooper) later married Ferdinand Bond in Q1 of 1933. Ferdinand Bond then died in Q1 of 1936, aged sixty-five, leaving Sarah widowed for the second time. She was then to lose her son Joseph in 1943.

FRITCHLEY GUNNER KILLED
Mrs S. Bond, Hill Top Fritchley, has received official notification that her son Gunner J. H. Weightman, Maritime R.A.had been killed in action.
Gunner Weightman, who was 27 years old, joined the Sherwood Foresters in March 1940, and was transferred to the M.R.A. in March 1943, joining his ship in June 1942.
Previous to joining the Colours he was employed by the Park Foundry Co., Belper
